CBD Myths/FAQ

We get dozens of questions about the benefits of CBD all the time. Will it make you tired? Is it safe? Is it considered marijuana? The list goes on and on. To help, we put together the top frequently asked questions in regards to CBD and its benefits.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) interacts with the endocannabinoid system, comprised of receptors that take it in and have enzymes break it down. After the enzymes break it down, it is then synthesized and sent throughout the whole body to various biological and cognitive processes.

What is Hemp?

Hemp, or industrial hemp, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species explicitly grown for industrial use. It can be used to make a wide range of products. Along with bamboo, hemp is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth.

Are CBD and THC the same?

Although CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) comes from the same Cannabis Sativa plant and are the most prominent cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, they are not the same. Under the cannabis umbrella is hemp and marijuana (consider them cousins) which is composed of two different strains and both compounds interact with your body’s endocannabinoid system differently. Both marijuana and hemp plants produce CBD and THC, however, marijuana cannabis plants have a higher concentration of THC, and Hemp has a higher concentration of CBD. CBD comes from the whole plant in varieties grown to have a low level of THC which equates to 0.3% (dry weight). In contrast, THC is pulled primarily from the flowers and has levels ranging from 5-35%. The primary difference is their chemical composition and the way the body naturally receives them as different compounds.

Will CBD get you high?

A common misconception is that CBD will give you similar psychoactive feelings as marijuana; however, this is in fact, false. Considering CBD is a “non-psychoactive” compound and only contains 0.3% or less contents of THC, you will not experience the same euphoric or sedated feelings associated with marijuana.

How does CBD make you feel?

The primary sensation of CBD that many people feel is relaxation. Unlike THC, CBD binds very weakly to CB1 receptors in the brain which is why you will not feel similar euphoric feelings associated with THC. The interaction of CB1 receptors is believed to release neurotransmitters to your brain, responsible for regulating and balancing many processes in the body, including immune response, communication between cells, metabolism, memory, and more. CBD has been said to reduce pain within the body and provide users with a less anxious feeling after consumption.

Is CBD legal?

Due to the different levels of THC, CBD and marijuana are regulated differently under the law. It’s all based on where CBD is derived from. If the CBD comes from the Hemp plant, it is legal, but if CBD is derived from the Marijuana plant, it is considered illegal due to the THC levels produced.

What are the benefits of CBD?

Health benefits related to CBD are still being tested daily; however, the most common benefits that users of CBD say they experience are anti-inflammatory, reducing anxiety and helping provide relaxation for those that experience insomnia. Currently, the FDA has approved one CBD-based drug, Epidiolex, to treat several severe forms of childhood epilepsy.

How do you take CBD?

CBD can be taken in various forms, from topical use to oral consumption. Most oral CBD products consist of pills and tinctures while topical options come in oils, lotions, and more. It is said that topical application of CBD is more effective in relieving inflammation or pain in one area.

Where can you get CBD?

There are many places to purchase CBD, whether you decide to order online, visit your local dispensary, or purchase directly from a CBD producer. You can find a wide range of Get Sacred products online, to place your next order.

How old do you need to be to use CBD?

Although there is no legal age restriction on CBD products, most places you purchase CBD will require an ID. As we mentioned before, CBD is not harmful and, in some cases, can be prescribed by a doctor regardless of age. It would be best to consult with a physician before deciding to use CBD as an alternative for those under 18.

What are the side effects of CBD?
